Muxlow Mediation’s Internship Program is a structured, practice-based learning opportunity designed to support developing mediators in building the competencies required for professional family mediation work. The program emphasizes ethical practice, process management, neutral facilitation, and high-quality documentation in family and relationship disputes.

This program is suitable for individuals who:
Have completed (or are near completion of) foundational mediation training and wish to gain applied experience
Are seeking mentored practice hours toward recognized mediation designations and practice standards (as applicable)
Want structured feedback on intake, screening, joint session management, and agreement documentation

Training and supervision are oriented to the practical realities of family mediation, including:
Intake and suitability assessment (including power imbalance and safety screening)
Establishing process, ground rules, and informed participation
Communication and negotiation skills (interest-based facilitation, reframing, reality-testing)
Parenting discussions and child-focused approaches (as appropriate)
Financial issue organization (information-gathering, document management, support calculation inputs where applicable)
Drafting and file documentation (Mediation Reports, MOUs, and related summaries based on party instructions)
Professional conduct, neutrality, confidentiality, and managing conflicts of interest

The Internship Program is typically delivered through a combination of the following (tailored to the trainee’s experience level and availability):
Observation/shadowing of mediations (where parties consent)
Co-mediation opportunities (where appropriate and with party consent)
Supervised file work (intakes, agenda-building, and documentation support)
Skills development sessions (role plays, debriefs, and targeted coaching)
Regular supervision meetings with structured feedback and learning goals

Upon completion, trainees typically leave with:
Practical experience in intake, joint session facilitation support, and file management
Improved competence in drafting mediation summaries and documenting outcomes
A clearer professional development plan identifying strengths, growth areas, and next steps toward independent practice
Participation in the program does not guarantee certification/designation or acceptance by any professional body; trainees remain responsible for meeting any external credentialing requirements.
