Muxlow Mediation’s Internship Program is a structured, practice-based learning opportunity designed to support developing mediators in building the competencies required for professional family mediation work. • Are seeking mentored practice hours toward recognized mediation designations and practice standards (as applicable)

    • Want structured feedback on intake, screening, joint session management, and agreement documentation

  • Training and supervision are oriented to the practical realities of family mediation, including:

    • Establishing process, ground rules, and informed participation

    • Communication and negotiation skills (interest-based facilitation, reframing, reality-testing)

    • Parenting discussions and child-focused approaches (as appropriate)

    • Financial issue organization (information-gathering, document management, support calculation inputs where applicable)

    • Drafting and file documentation (Mediation Reports, MOUs, and related summaries based on party instructions)

    • Professional conduct, neutrality, confidentiality, and managing conflicts of interest

  • The Internship Program is typically delivered through a combination of the following (tailored to the trainee’s experience level and availability):

    • Observation/shadowing of mediations (where parties consent)

    • Co-mediation opportunities (where appropriate and with party consent)

    • Supervised file work (intakes, agenda-building, and documentation support)

    • Skills development sessions (role plays, debriefs, and targeted coaching)

    • Regular supervision meetings with structured feedback and learning goals

  • Upon completion, trainees typically leave with:

    • Practical experience in intake, joint session facilitation support, and file management

    • Improved competence in drafting mediation summaries and documenting outcomes

    • A clearer professional development plan identifying strengths, growth areas, and next steps toward independent practice
